IFEM ED Certification

Emergency departments (EDs) serve as the frontline of healthcare systems, yet significant variability exists worldwide in patient safety, quality of care, operational performance, and clinical outcomes. Increasing patient volumes, growing complexity of care, resource constraints, and evolving healthcare demands underscore the need for a structured approach to promoting excellence and consistency in emergency care delivery.

As an independent, not-for-profit organization, To address these challenges and in alignment with its vision “A world where all people, in all countries, have access to high-quality emergency medical care”, the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM), in collaboration with TASNEEF RINA Business Assurance, developed the IFEM Emergency Department Quality Certification Standards. The objective was to establish an internationally benchmarked certification framework that enables emergency departments to assess, improve, and demonstrate quality across key domains of emergency care.

Through this standard, IFEM reinforces its mission to strengthen emergency systems worldwide. Certification encourages continuous improvement, supports staff and leadership in raising performance, and offers patients the assurance that their care meets global expectations for safety and quality.

IFEM invites every Emergency Department to join a global effort to raise standards, inspire trust, and ensure dignity and excellence for every patient, every time.
